Aw, look at that adorable face. Isn’t she an angel?
No. No she is not. She is ornery. She has selective hearing. She wakes our household up at 4:30 a.m. EVERY morning. She eats her sister, Kali’s, poop. When Mom is running late and needs her to go potty, she chooses to run around the yard and find sticks instead.
Life with a puppy. It’s challenging. Every day I laugh at her antics. Some days I cry with frustration. Each day, I learn an important lesson from her and I’d be lost without her in my life.
So today’s post is one of many, I’m sure, of life lessons I’m learning with Luna the puppy.
- Be careful where you step, and most DEFINITELY don’t step in a large pile of dog poop in your workout shoes.
- Don’t worry about being late for work. There are way too many sticks out in the yard that need to be discovered and chewed. Get your priorities in order.
- Play hard at 110%. When you’re done, nap. You can never nap too much throughout the day (especially when it’s in Mom’s lap.) But if you can’t nap, at least stop and rest. Sniff the air, feel the grass beneath your feet.
In other news, I’ve been trying to figure out a way to incorporate the tasks from 75 Hard into my daily life. Although the program didn’t work out for me due to too much water and no rest days, I felt like I got a lot out of the program and I wanted to take what I learned and keep going. On Sunday, I downloaded an app on my phone called Todoist, which is a tool to help you create daily checklists and I came up with a list of tasks that I’ll do on a daily basis. If I miss a task, I won’t be starting over at Day 1 because there is no time limit. This isn’t a challenge. This is just a way for me to keep up my healthy habits. Checklists have always been a helpful tool for me. I LOVE checklists. There’s something about keeping a list and being able to check off the tasks one by one. I love that feeling at the end of day when you see that all of the stuff you wanted to do that day is done and checked off.
My goal each day is to do the following:
- Drink 80 oz of water each day. This amount works well for me and I feel good with no stomach issues.
- Do my Beachbody workout first thing in the morning, if it’s not a scheduled rest day. Honestly, I’ve already been doing this habit for about two years, but it feels good to include it in my list and check it off.
- Go for a 2-mile walk outside during my lunch break. The fresh air and movement are really good for me. I’m convinced that one of the reasons why I was sleeping so well during 75 Hard was walking outside every day.
- Floss! A habit that I’ve attempted many times to establish and have failed.
- Read 10 pages from a personal development/self-help book.
- Eat a healthy diet. I don’t have a specific diet that I follow. I eat a vegetarian, mostly vegan diet. I’m working on keeping my consumption of alcohol, snacks and take-out food in moderation. Eliminating these things 100% feels too restrictive to me and I do much better mentally when I enjoy these things occasionally.
I had to refrain myself from adding more things to the task list. I think this would set me up for failure, or at the very least, some unwanted stress and anxiety. Having too many things to focus on would be detrimental for me, so I’m starting with these things because they are health priorities for me right now.
