Today’s post was supposed to disclose our family “surprise“. We were planning on adopting a dog, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out. The dog didn’t get along with our dog, Kali. However, we are hopeful that we will find a dog that will fit in with our family. Stay tuned.
Instead, I’ll talk about control. It seems as though 2020 has done nothing but remind us about how little control we have as human beings. However, I’d also argue that 2020 has been a big lesson in things that we do have control over.
While I’m not perfect and I have my struggle days just like everyone else, I decided at the beginning of the pandemic that while I don’t have control of what’s going on in the outside world, I do have control in what I do. I continued to work on my fitness goals. Luckily my workouts are here at home, so even though the gyms were closed, it didn’t affect what I was doing. I continued to do my workouts first thing in the morning because that’s what works for me to stay consistent.
I also had control of how I decided to fuel my body. My diet hasn’t been perfect; there has been some stress eating and wine drinking, but honestly, I feel like I’ve done pretty well. I still had control over the grocery shopping, so the grocery cart each week was filled with healthy foods. I still had control over the cooking, so I continued meal planning and prepping. I also limited the amount of take-out food that we got; my husband and I chose to get take-out just once a week, not only to treat ourselves, but also to show our support for our favorite restaurants.
I also have control over my mindset. This is where I struggle the most. It’s hard to stay positive when there is so much negativity around me. It’s sometimes hard to focus on goals. I sometimes fall into the comparison trap. But having a healthy mindset is just as important as working out and eating healthy.
Luckily, Beachbody has come out with a new program that will help me control all of the things I’ve mentioned above: fitness, nutrition, and mindset. It’s called 9 Week Control Freak and it was created by super trainer, Autumn Calabrese, who is the creator of 21 Day Fix, 21 Day Fix Extreme, and 80 Day Obsession. She is one of my favorite trainers and I’m so excited to do this program.
9 Week Control Freak is five days of exercise per week: three DCT-T workouts (Density, Complexes, and Tabata Training), one day of Total Body Tone, and one day of Tabata Cardio and Core. There will also be supplemental 10-minute bonus workouts to target certain muscle groups. There will be a nutrition program to follow AND there are Controlled Stretch sessions that will include light stretching, breathing exercises, and other restorative techniques to help prepare for better sleep and recovery overnight.
This program is just what I need to finish out 2020 and start 2021 on a healthy, positive note! I can’t wait to start!
Are you ready to become a Control Freak?
